1.All Coaches and assistants over 18 must be Live Scanned in order to participate in this League.Leslie Fingerprinting at 521 East Palmdale Bl can provide this service. You will have to pay the fee for the service. The League will reimburse you once you have cleared the Live Scan process.
2.All Coaches will have to take a Coach’s Class to be licensed. The fee is $20 which will be reimbursed when your attendance in the class is confirmed. You’ll be told when the next class is scheduled.
3.You will be responsible to communicate League information to the team assigned to you.A File box with your team number will be available on game days at the Pavilion.Make sure you pass along any information that affects your Parents or Players.Especially the fundraising programs.
4.Most communication between the League and you will be thru the website’s MessageCenter. There are occasional meetings scheduled. You can also call the PYSL hotline and leave a message.
[PYSL] League head coach is Eduardo Morales who is the primary contact between PYSL and the coaches. If you could not get a hold of Eduardo, please feel free to contact the league at (661) 533-2255 or the president Jorge Cabrera at (661) 435-4988..
5.You must actively support any League fundraisers. It’s important to keep us going or we won’t have anything to coach!
6.Pick a good “Team Mother” to help you will all the steps of the program.
[PYSL] Team father will work also, we are not picky.
7.Work hard to get a team sponsor. There’s a sponsor letter in your package that will explain the different levels of sponsorship and what they get for their money. The best part is that their name will be on the back of the team’s game shirts.
[PYSL] The sponsor fee is typically used for field related expenses such as paint, nets, soccer balls and other field equipment.PYSL is also considering setting aside some of the sponsor money for the sponsored teams.Information will be distributed once we decide how to allocate the money.
8.You can get the player’s name printed on the game shirt.Niky’s at 673 W. Avenue I, Lancaster, CA 93534, (661) 949-7707.The cost is $2 per shirt.Make a list of names, including the name to be put on your Coach’s shirt, and any additional shirt you may be ordering.Get the list to Niky as early as possible so that they can get the lettering done – you don’t have to wait to have the shirts to do this.Take the game shirts in when you have them and update your list with the shirt number so that the name can be applied.
9.The Soccer season starts around August for Fall session and March for Spring session. As soon as you get your team folder (usually a few weeks before practice start), call your parents and let them know when your first practice will be held.Tell them the day, time and field number.Remind them to bring soccer shoes, shin guards, appropriate size ball and water.
10.Schedule your parent meeting at the first practice.Attached are sample Team- to- parent letter that should help you prepare for your meeting.
11.End of season party can be funded by your goal can collections or what ever you decide to do.This is wide open.It helps to make an accounting of what you’ve collected to your parents and how it’s spent to avoid any conflicts. The party is optional but the kids and parents expect it to happen.
12.Field Painting. You’ll have a turn at field painting.Check the field painting schedule on the website so you know when it’s your turn.
13.Work on enlisting referees for the League. Some teams have a minimum requirement in order to qualify for Blow Out games. If you coach, you need to referee, too. It’s part of the job.Or enlist someone to take your place.
[PYSL] It is our goal for the coach to concentrate his/her time on coaching the kids.It is not PYSL’s policy to require any coaches to be referees. We actually would prefer parents from the teams to step up and contribute to the teams by becoming referees. The coaches have enough things to do; parents, volunteer your time and help out.We are only asking for 1-2 hours each week.
14.You’ll need a small picture of the players face to put on your player’s cards. And you’ll have to take the cards to be laminated. The team will pay for the cost to laminate the cards.
Options to get your cards laminated:
a.Purchase laminating sheets from office supply stores such as Staples or Office Depot
b.You can take the cards to Staples or Office Depot and they could laminate them for you.
c.Wal-Mart has individual laminating pouches that you can purchase and laminate the cards individually.
15.The park is divided into soccer fields according to Division. You will have to submit your practice schedule to the Head Coach for clearance. We need to make sure that multiple teams are not trying to get to the same field at the same time.
[PYSL] Again, head coach is Eduardo Morales.
16.You will be called to ask your preference for a team color for your game uniforms. This is usually around the end of July.
17.You will be called to see how many coaches’ shirts you’ll need. You’ll be supplied a shirt for you.You can order more for your assistants, if you’d like.
[PYSL] Additional coach jerseys typically cost $15-$20 each.
